Counseling for the Daring Traveler
It all begins when you decide to break away without the “group of tourists” surrounding you. You may be planning to go it alone, with a companion or with a few friends that share your enthusiasm for adventure; and it’s not that difficult! Perhaps this site will offer some helpful advice to motivate you into action, to decide where to go, when to go and how to plan to get there. There may be even a thought or two on what to do when you arrive at your destination. This advice comes from a well seasoned traveler that rarely uses a travel agent or travel agency to plan for me and my traveling companions.
Back to Hilton Head Island…
With most areas lifting COVID restrictions…you will think the pandemic is over when you get out and travel! At least at HHI this seems the case. The crowds were thick and the attractions full but here’s a tip for making it a different kind of trip…
Reserve a Tree House on Deer Island at Harbour Town and find some quiet time.
Despite some rainy Spring Days…
It’s time to ditch the mask and take a trek or to bike on a pleasant Saturday afternoon…explore a couple Lynchburg, Virginia trails with me.
Blogger’s note: The recent heavy rains washed out part of Point of Honor Trail thus my picture of the water falls is a 2020 picture from last fall! So be sure to check trail conditions before heading out…
Going Normal…
Health mandates waning, outdoor activities gaining…some normalcy returns! So normal, in fact, all I have done is work, work, work. Yard work that is. After letting things slide for a year due to “you know what”, there is picking up yard debris, cutting the lawn, triming overgrown shrubs, painting lawn furniture, staining decks and fences. I could go on, but instead, let’s talk going to normality…
The silver Lincoln was getting non-dependable, so a new vehicle had to be secured: to haul bikes, and any other assortment of getting outside stuff. And my big truck is no longer desirable to travel in (according to my travel companion of many many years!)…so we compromised from Lincoln to Jeep (shhhh: but it is a Cherokee). Now that’s a real change in our lives!
Guess what was needed…a new utility cargo trailer - downsized of course, but large enough for a motorcycle and various other toys - and a new bike rack since the Jeep has a lift gate on the back where as the Lincoln had a normal trunk! PS - if you need a good used Thule trunk mount bike rack, I know where one is kept.
Fully assembled now, the Kuat NV 2.0 fits securely on the Jeep towing hitch, as it should. My only caution on this rack - it’s heavy so watch your back!
I am now ready to saddle up and break my butt back in for biking through some of America this year…future postings will tell you where we visited.
Small portion of the yardwork…that competed with biking, hiking, etc.
Peddling Hilton Head
Pandemic Peddling Hilton Head
If you have the time and are within driving distance, pack the bike and get some air at Hilton Head, SC. Avoiding crowds and being outdoors is easy during the off-season. Do the Pandemic Peddle there.
